Behind My Mind
I’ve been thinking of different ways I can positively contribute to mental health in the community for a couple years now. With Mental Illness Awareness Week here, I was ready to post my story on social media once again, in the hopes that it would reach others who struggle with mental illness, and encourage them to open up and reach out. These mental health and illness awareness days are days where people share their stories with the same hopes in mind. But what about all the other days?
This is why I’m creating the Behind My Mind campaign.
With this campaign, individuals will be sharing stories of their mental health journeys, not just for one day, but for every day thereafter. Mental health problems can affect anyone, any time, and can look very different in different people. They can alter a person’s thinking, emotional state and behaviour, and interfere with their ability to work and maintain relationships. Destigmatizing mental health problems, both externally and internally, is the first step towards contributing to mental wellness and creating a stronger community.
I hope you will join me on my mission to normalize these conversations, encourage others to share their stories, and shine a light on the realities of mental health and illnesses, one mind at a time.
